William Sherwood

William H. (Bill) Sherwood was born June 27, 1941. He is a 1960 graduate of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, and in 1964 earned his B.Sc. in Animal Science from the University of Toronto. In addition to his agricultural education, Bill holds a Funeral Director and Embalmer license and is a private pilot. In 1965 he married Ruth, and they have raised three sons - Mike, Jim and Bruce.

Bill's involvement with the dairy industry started early in his professional career. He was active in the N.B. Holstein Association and the N.B. Milk Producers Association, which elected him President in 1970. He also served as President of the Associated Milk Foundation of Canada in 1971-72.

In 1973, he became founding Chairman of the New Brunswick Milk Marketing Board and served as Chairman and General Manager until 1988, continuing as GM until 1990. During this period, Bill also served as the New Brunswick Director to the Dairy Farmers of Canada (1971-1988) and as President of the organization in 1981-1982. His involvement with the Dairy Bureau of Canada included New Brunswick Director from 1980 to 1983, Chairman of the Board from 1991 to 1993, and CEO in 1992-1993. In addition, he was General Manager of R & G Transport, a milk producer transportation company for the period 1990-1992.

Bill represented Canada at the International Dairy Federation from 1976 to 1992 and has also served as a consultant to IDF Canada. He sits as a Director of the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame. His achievements have been recognized by the award of the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Medal, and the Louis Hebert Medal of the N.B. Institute of Agrologists.

Bill operated a dairy farm near Norton, NB, until the early nineties, and has continued to be active in his community and church.

Nominated by the New Brunswick Federation of Agriculture, Bill Sherwood's many contributions to the development of the dairy industry in New Brunswick merit recognition in the Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame.
