RAMS Weekend Recap – Feb. 1-2
Badminton – Hosted by AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ Agricultural Campus (Feb. 1)
The AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ Agricultural Campus had the pleasure of hosting the final regular season badminton tournament which saw all 4 teams jockeying for position in the upcoming ACAA Conference Championships and National Qualifying Tournament.
Mount Allison ended up winning the tournament with 4 first place and 4 second place finishes, followed closely by UKC who had 3 first place and 2 second place finishes. Dal AC and Université Sainte Anne battled for 3rd throughout the day with Université Sainte Anne just edging them out.
Going into the championships on February 15-16 (Hosted by UKC) UKC is ranked first in Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles, USA is first in Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles, and Mount A is currently holding the top spot in Men’s Singles.
Tournament highlights for Dal AC include a second place finish for Sarah Pepperdine and Cindy Yu in the Women’s A Doubles draw, a first place finish for Adrian Bent in the Men’s Singles B draw, and a 3rd place finish in the tournaments toughest draw (Mixed A) for Daylon Tan and Sarah Pepperdine who were very competitive with the winning team of Bryce Mason and Sabby Somji.
Women’s Volleyball
February 1 – Dal AC vs UKC
After a hard fought weekend which saw the RAMS defeat MSVU and play very competitively with the conferences top team, Holland College, the Dal AC squad unfortunately didn’t bring their best game to Halifax. The UKC Blue Devils won the match in straight sets with Abby Hourigan of the home team recording 12 kills.
Feb. 2 - Université Sainte Anne vs Dal AC
The AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ AC Rams managed to defeat the USA Dragons three sets to nil in ACAA womens volleyball action on Sunday afternoon. The Rams were led by a powerful performance from Marit Zwinselman and excellent substitute showings from Xenna Mazal and Allyson Briggs. The Dragons put up a strong defence led by Mekayla Leger though it was not enough to withstand the more experienced Rams attack.
Next up for the Rams is a home match next Saturday (February 8) vs the Holland Hurricanes
DAL AC Athletes of the Week
Sarah Pepperdine (Badminton)
Sarah Pepperdine had her strongest tournament of the season placing 2nd in Women’s Doubles (partner Cindy Yu) and 3rd in Mixed Doubles (Partner Daylon Tan). Sarah has consistently improved throughout the season and will now look to build on this momentum at the upcoming ACAA championships hosted by UKC on Feb. 15-16.
Daylon Tan (Badminton)
Daylon had another strong tournament for Dal AC placing 2nd in Men’s Doubles (Partner Kyle Bauld) and 3rd in Mixed Doubles (Partner Sarah Pepperdine) the final ACAA regular season event. Daylon will now look to lead his team to a strong finish at the upcoming ACAA Conference Championships/National Qualifying Tournament.
