Dwane Mellish, Class of ‘75

Dwane Mellish, Class of ’75 and Debbie Smith Class of ’76 met through mutual friends and classmates and were married in July 1976 at the chapel at what was then CFB Summerside.

Best love advice? “Have a balance of individual interests/activities and interests/activities as a couple. It is important to be able to talk to your partner to resolve small issues before they become larger issues. Show mutual respect. Doing small things spontaneously for your partner helps build the relationship. Be supportive when the times are tough as it is easy to be supportive when the going is good.

Having a sense of humour helps you over the bumpy times. Having two vehicles in the household helps any relationship. And in the words of a classmate who will remain anonymous “Why go seeking hamburger on the street when you have steak at home!"

During their college years the Ram Shack pubs (basement of Chapman House) were their fave spot on campus.  Lots of socializing. dancing and just good fun!

Dwane and Debbie Mellish were the 2007 recipients of the Volunteer of the Year award as part of the Blue& Gold awards.  They have both retired, Debbie from the Faculty of Agriculture and Dwane from Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia.Â
