OACC Director's Message

The OACC is thrilled to be celebrating its 15th anniversary (July 12th)! The OACC was established by Dr. Ralph Martin as part of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 2001 with its first major funding announcement. It was an exciting time and Ralph focussed his efforts on building the integrity of organic agriculture through coordinating and promoting the science of organic agriculture. Ralph was certainly a visionary, sector leader, and for me (as well as others I’m sure), an amazing mentor.

We have been blessed to have had so many individuals and organizations interested in supporting and working with us as members of our Advisory Board, graduate and summer students, collaborators in research and extension, and funding partners. I want to especially acknowledge the amazing staff who have worked with us over the years to serve not only the OACC, but the organic sector overall.

The OACC has gone through many changes over the years with different funding projects and then the transition to AV¾ãÀÖ²¿. I want to acknowledge the tremendous and substantial commitment that the Administration of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ have provided over the years. With this 15th anniversary, the OACC is once again reviewing its vision and mission to plan how we might best serve the organic sector as part of AV¾ãÀÖ²¿.

Please celebrate with us in true organic fashion!

Sincerely,
Andy Hammermeister, Ph.D., P.Ag.
Director, OACC
