Successful School Conferences in 2014/15

Architecture

The School of Architecture hosted the聽2014聽Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) Fall Conference in Halifax. This conference considers the potential of Design-Build聽in post secondary education.聽This聽conference is the third in a series of international conferences funded with grants totaling over $3 million. It was co-chaired by a聽Ted聽Cavanagh,聽a聽AV俱乐部 professor well versed in the importance of design build curriculum and teaching. The conference聽attracted speakers and presenters from all over the world,聽resulting聽in nearly two hundred attendees.聽Due聽to the efforts of many,聽AV俱乐部 is now well-recognized as a centre of design-build education.

Planning

The School of Planning hosted the 聽annual Plan out Loud event in April. It was a successful day of presentations and exhibits of student work by students across all years and both聽programs. The School also hosted 聽Shift Rural in March, the annual School of Planning student run conference. A Pecha Kucha event held at the Wolfville, Farmers Market kicked off聽the event. The School participated in the Carmichael Lecture with the Halifax聽Downtown Business Commission who invited Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi. Zita Cobb of the聽Shorefast Foundation was the conference Key Note speaker and many others joined to explored the challenges and opportunities for rural communities now and in the聽future. The聽event was concluded with a Local Food Fest.
