Acting Auditions for Current Students
We actively encourage submissions from applicants of all genders, ethnicities, and abilities.
- Auditions will take place in Studio 2 on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please sign up at the Fountain School office for a 15 minute in person audition time.Â
- Applicants are asked to prepare three pieces that exhibit their range in performance, each no longer than two minutes in duration:
- One monologue from a modern play (20th Century or later). This can be any speech but must be from a published play. After choosing your monologue, read the entire play from which the speech was chosen.
- One piece of poetic text. This can be from a play that uses heightened language, or from a standalone piece of poetry, but must be performed as a monologue from the character’s perspective. We encourage you to pick something you connect to personally. Some examples: contemporary poetry, Shakespeare, classical Greek, spoken word, slam, ASL, etc.
- One Song, unaccompanied, or self-accompanied on applicant’s own instrument. Can be any form and should be something the applicant connects with personally. Some examples: traditional, cover, standard, rap, folk, original song written by the applicant, etc.
- For the purposes of this evaluation, we prefer that you perform or present your pieces from memory rather than reading from a script or improvising.
- Applicants must provide a current photo and resume of relevant work and experience along with the names, addresses, and phone numbers of two references (preferably a former drama teacher, director, community leader, or someone with whom the applicant has worked in a creative capacity) other than a fellow student or current Fountain School Acting Program instructor. Resumes should also include complete contact information (mailing address, phone number, email address, etc.) for the applicant, so that they can be contacted over the summer.
- Applicants should submit these materials and a one-page declaration of why they wish to study to be an actor in the AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ Acting Program. Applicants may submit their materials either in hard copy to the panel on the day of the audition or digitally via email to performingarts@dal.ca before the end of the day (11:59pm) on April 7th.Â
- Group call back will take place on Wednesday, April 9th, from 11:30-12:30, in Studio 2.
- During group call-backs, applicants may be asked to explore movement and/or to build a spontaneous creation collaboratively with other applicants.
