The School of Health Sciences, comprised of the programs Diagnostic Cytology, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiological Technology, Respiratory Therapy and Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound hosted the first annual Inteprofessional Championships on September 14, 2012.聽 First year students competed against each other in various tasks related to their professions.聽 As a timekeeper roamed the halls ringing the oxen bells, five interprofessional teams of students were tasked with finding cancer cells, identifying bones, finding leaks on a Geiger counter, resuscitating manikin "Jake the Trach", and finding tumours in ultrasound scans.聽 While competing for a gold medal win, students learned about each other's professions and how they interrelate in the health care field, worked together in teams, and made new friendships in the early days of their professional degrees.聽 The positive feedback showed that the event fostered learning and respect amongst the participants.聽 Plans for this year's event are currently underway.
