Faculty of Health Professions launches The Health Institute

In May 2016 the Faculty of Health Professions will launch the : an offering of virtual and in-person lectures, workshops and courses, all under one interprofessional umbrella.聽 The Health Institute is aimed at health students and working health practitioners seeking new skills and ideas, and the latest in best practices.

"It's been very exciting to see the Health Institute develop over the past year," says Dr. Tanya Packer - Director of the School of Occupational Therapy - who, together with a small planning committee, has taken the lead in the development of the Health Institute.聽 "We have innovative courses and new ways to deliver them.聽 I'm looking forward to the Health Institute's first summer - and to seeing it grow."

Both credit and non-credit courses will be offered, as well as online on campus options, taught by faculty from the College of Pharmacy and Schools of Health Sciences, Occupational Therapy, and Physiotherapy.聽 Courses available through the Health Institute include:

  • Culture, Diversity and Health;
  • Foundations in Clinical and Professional Education;
  • Motivational Interviewing;
  • Disability Management;
  • Progressive Exercise for Balance and Functional Mobility;
  • Introduction to Aboriginal Peoples' Health and Healing;
  • and the Faculty's new certificates in and .

"The Health Institute is needed and is an excellent way for the Faculty to share its expertise and perspectives with students, alumni and community," says Dean Will Webster.

Most of the courses in the Health Institute will run in May and June.聽
