Description of Research

Professor Lazare's family law research examines the economic and non-economic consequences of family breakdown, including the practice of judicial reliance on the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines, the underlying theoretical bases of the spousal support obligation, and the law of retroactive child support and its effects on women and children. Where nonhuman animals are concerned, she has written about legal models of companion animal ownership and is currently examining the constitutional dimensions of animal rights activism and the constitutionality of Canadian ag-gag legislation.
