Read Memorial Lecture: Searching for the Truth /faculty/law/news-events/events/2024/11/25/horace_e__read_memorial_lecture__searching_for_the_truth.html <p><b>AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ the Lecture:</b> The&nbsp;<a href="/faculty/law/news-events/speaker-series/horace-e-read-memorial-lecture.html">Read Lecture series</a>&nbsp;was inaugurated in 1975 to honour the memory of the late Horace E Read, OC, QC, who was Dean of AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ Law School from 1950 until 1964, in recognition of his contribution to legal education and legal scholarship.<br> <br> Dr. Read's areas of interest were broad: law reform, legislation and the legislative process, conflict of law, labour law and legal education, and this is well reflected in the diversity of the lectures.</p> <p><b>AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ the Topic:</b> Is a criminal trial a search for the truth? How do we navigate between the trial process and our day-to-day life in that elusive search?</p> <p><b>AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ the Speaker:</b> <a adhocenable="false" href="https://www.blg.com/en/people/a/arbour-louise">The Honourable Louise Arbour</a> has had a long and distinguished career in international affairs. She is a senior counsel with the firm Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG), providing strategic advice on litigation, governance and international disputes, and mentoring younger lawyers.</p> <p>Arbour is also a retired justice of the Supreme Court of Canada and the Court of Appeal for Ontario.
