The Faculty ofÌýManagementÌýpresentedÌýtheÌý2019/2020ÌýResearch AwardsÌýduring a virtual ceremony in February.Ìý

Rising Research Star: Qi DengÌý

The Rising Research Star award is givenÌýtoÌýaÌýtenure-trackÌýFaculty of ManagementÌýresearcher. It is based primarily on the number and quality of publications acceptedÌýas well as grantsÌýawarded during the previous academic year.Ìý

Qi Deng is an assistant professor in the Rowe School of Business’sÌýTechnology, Innovation Management and EntrepreneurshipÌýgroup whose researchÌýinterests include social media analytics, brand linguistics and digital marketing. In 2019/2020 academic year, heÌýpublishedÌýthreeÌýarticles in high-quality marketing journals, and had two publications in conference proceedings for the International Conference on Systems Sciences, which is considered one of the two top conferences in his field.

Research Star: Jenny ZhangÌý

The Research StarÌýaward is givenÌýtoÌýaÌýtenuredÌýFaculty of ManagementÌýresearcher.ÌýIt is based primarily on the number and quality of publications accepted as well as grants awarded during the previous academic year.

Jenny Zhang is an associate professor in the Rowe School of Business’s Accounting groupÌýwhose research includes the examination of financial reporting quality in relation to audit-related issues, accrual versus real earnings management, corporate governance, regulation implication, labour investment, accounting conservatism and dividend policy. Last year, she published three articles in top-ranked journals. Her article in the Journal of Corporate Finance offers new evidence regarding the unintended and adverse consequences of the Inevitable Disclosure Doctrine ruling on corporate disclosure policy.

Impact Award: Karen Beazley

The Impact Award isÌýgivenÌýto aÌýFaculty of ManagementÌýresearcher in recognition of their overall lifetime achievement to date. This decision is guided by traditional research metrics, such as impact factors and citationsÌýandÌýadditional considerations of the nature of the impact.

KarenÌýBeazley is aÌýprofessorÌýin the School for Resource and Environmental Studies whoÌýstudies biodiversity conservation system planning,ÌýIndigenous-protected and conserved areas and co-production of knowledge.ÌýIn additionÌýto her publication and citation rate,Ìýthe awards committee wasÌýimpressed with her knowledge co-creation and dissemination efforts with Indigenous communitiesÌýas well as howÌýshe elects dissemination venues that reach the audiences often marginalized in academia.
