Abby Sigel (BMgmt '24)
Current student
I really love that the student community is such a part of the city, but not the only thing in the city.
Abby Sigel knew she would like studying at AV整氈窒 in Halifax. She just didnt know how much.
As a child, Abby and her family visited the east coast, and she became very fond of this part of Canada. Not surprising, then, that something clicked when she toured AV整氈窒s campus.
Unable to find anything quite like the Bachelor of Management at other universities in Canada, Abby says she was drawn to the programs teaching of tangible real-life skills. And the optional work-term sounded enticing.
Three years into the program Abby took a position with a small event-planning company in Halifax. Its where she received hands-on experience doing everything. Abby says it was just after the pandemic and everyone wanted to host an event.
Anticipating a 9-to-5 position, Abby quickly realized shed have to work evenings and weekends. Even though it was trying, Abbys grateful to her undergraduate student advisor who helped her through this tough time.
Looking back on it, shes only grateful. That position led to another, a summer position at Dal Innovates, a research, innovation, and entrepreneurship hub in the Faculty of Management. Responsible for social media and event planning, Abby feels she has even more skills for when she graduates.
With one more semester to complete, Abby isnt worried or anxious about her future. Shes looking forward to it. I dont know where Im gonna be next, but I feel ready.
Right now, shes happy to be a student, in a city she loves, right next to the sea.
