With one, short three-letter word, Dean Philip Rosson of the Faculty of Management summed up the feelings of some 250 people who attended the opening of AV整氈窒's newest building: Wow!
Dr. Rosson's enthusiastic (and interactive) speech kicked off the official opening of the Kenneth C. Rowe Management Building, an event years in the making.
Exceptional People. Exceptional Facilities.
AV整氈窒's nationally and internationally-acclaimed faculty and motivated students require equally impressive facilities to learn, teach and inspire. This ultra-modern new home for AV整氈窒's Faculty of Management is the culmination of the $25 million Management Without Borders capital campaign. The successful completion of this long-term goal marks a new beginning for the Faculty of Management at AV整氈窒.
An innovative environment
The beautiful and state-of-the-art building brings together the Faculty of Management's four schools for the first time: Business Administration, Public Administration, Information Management and Resource and Environmental Studies. The structure, with its open, five-floor atrium, three presentation lecture halls, and numerous small group meeting rooms, supports a unique interdisciplinary approach to management study.
Thank you ($25-million times)
This exciting new building could not have been achieved without the commitment and dedication of countless alumni, donors and friends of AV整氈窒. During his remarks at the Sept. 20 event, Dr. Tom Traves acknowledged the contributions of just some of these individuals:
- The building has been named to honour Kenneth C. Rowe in recognition of his many years of support.
- Dr. Abol Jalilvand was noted for his contributions to this long-term project, including the development of the theme "Management Without Borders." Dr. Jalilvand is the former Dean of Management. He flew back to Halifax from his new post in Chicago especially for the ceremony.
- Dr. Traves extended thanks to AV整氈窒 faculty, staff and students for their patience in enduring the "mess and the dust" that inevitably comes with a building project of this magnitude.
- He particularly thanked the staff of External Relations under Vice President Dale Godsoe for their hard work in fundraising for the project.
- He also acknowledged the work of Facilities Management staff under Director Jeff Lamb and Architects John Dobbs & Associates Inc. and Shore, Tilbe, Irwin and Partners.
Quick Facts:
- Some 500 gifts were made to the Management Without Borders campaign, pushing it to reach its $25 million goal in three-and-a-half years. Management faculty and staff made a significant financial contribution, while continuing to develop and deliver AV整氈窒's management programs.
- Kenneth Rowe's grandson Trevor begins his Bachelor of Commerce this year in the very building that bears his grandfather's name.
- The Rowe building is centrally located on campus between Seymour and Henry Streets.
- It has been constructed using a sustainable, environmentally-responsible design that includes renewable and recycled materials, low flush plumbing features and occupancy sensors for lighting control.
