PhD student Shannon Currie and Dr. Vallis

Advocate, mentor and staunch supporter of students: these are just some of the words used to describe Dr. Michael Vallis, the 2007 recipient of the Clinical Community Recognition Award (CCRA).

Dr. Vallis received the award in an event hosted by the Psychology Department on Jan. 19. The 13th Annual CCRA event honoured Dr. Vallis, and the many members of the clinical psychology community who provide invaluable contributions to the training of the AV整氈窒 clinical psychology PhD students and the clinical program as a whole.

Dr. Michael Vallis is a health psychologist at the QEII, Adjunct faculty with the department of psychology and an Associate professor for the department of Psychiatry at AV整氈窒. In choosing Dr. Vallis as the CCRA award recipient, students recognized him as an outstanding community psychologist. They also noted how he positively affects the lives of clients and community members through individual and group counselling, public lecturing and an extensive research program. His dynamic and interactive teaching style and willingness to go above and beyond the expectation of a student supervisor was
also acknowledged.

This is the second time that Dr. Vallis has been honoured with the CCRA, having first received it in 1997. AV整氈窒's clinical psychology program gratefully acknowledges Dr. Vallis' contribution to the training program, and also extends their appreciation to the Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia (APNS) for their continued support of the CCRA event and clinical training.

Shannon Currie is a second year clinical psychology PhD student.
