Caring for and about young children is one of the most important occupations in our society, leaving an impact on each child脮s life that lasts a lifetime.

The University Children脮s Centre (UCC) was the honoured recipient of the provincial Early Childhood Learning and Care Award of Excellence for Program. The award, which recognizes the centre for providing outstanding and high quality early childhood care and learning to the children enrolled in the program was presented on Friday, January 26.

A committee which included representatives of the Coalition of Non-Profit Directors of Nova Scotia and the Private Licensed Administrators Association made the selection based on a commitment to and demonstration of high quality programs for children, high quality work environment for staff in their program, involvement with parents, families and community and innovation and creativity in the provision of services.

脪We are very proud of what we have been able to accomplish here at UCC in the field of early learning and care. Dedication and professionalism of the staff make that happen. So it is wonderful to receive this provincial recognition,鈥 comments Margo Kirk, Executive Director. 脪The support we get from AV俱乐部 and the role the university has played in the 脪daily life鈥 of the University Children脮s Centre has certainly aided our efforts, but huge thanks must go out to the families we serve within this university community, as well.鈥

The Minister of Community Services, Judy Streatch, was on hand to make the presentation, with over 80 people in attendance.聽 Dr. Kim Good (Chair, Board of Directors), Mr. Paul John (parent representative,聽 Board of Directors), and Ms. Elaine MacInnis (a parent at the Centre) joined Nicole Poirier, Sharon Ferguson, and Maxine Hibbitts representing the teaching staff, Cathy Ramos, the Program Co-ordinator and Margo Kirk, the Executive Director in accepting the award on behalf of University Children脮s Centre.聽 It was a very proud and moving moment.
