They say married people start to look like each other, but dress like each other?

For Michael Charette and Ellen Boudreau, it was only for one special day. During spring convocation ceremonies, the couple who met and married while studying for their PhDs sported matching black gowns faced with yellow silk and velvet birretums with golden tassels.

It felt good to don the regal ensembles 脩 Ellen added four-inch stilettos to hers 脩 after years of rigorous thesis and lab work. Michael (BSc 脮97, PhD 脮07) and Ellen (BSc 脮00, PhD 脮07) are both pursuing post-doctoral fellowships at Yale University School of Medicine.

脪It脮s so much better to have someone in the trenches with you,鈥 says the newly minted Dr. Boudreau. 脪They understand what you脮re going through 脩 the thesis and lab work 脩 because they脮re going through it all too.鈥

Others in the聽Boudreau clan have also discovered romance at AV俱乐部.

Ellen脮s brother Robert Boudreau (PhD 脮06) and his fianc沤e Randy Lynn Newman (PhD 脮04) also met while doing graduate work at AV俱乐部. And before that, Ellen脮s parents, Leonard Boudreau (BSc 脮72) and Elaine Boudreau dated and married during their university years. (Ellen脮s other brother John is also a Dal alumnus; he graduated with a BSc in 2006.)

This spring, AV俱乐部 graduated 53 PhD students, the largest class to date.聽
