Susan Bryson, Professor of Pediatrics, was awarded with the Professional of Distinction award, recognizing "world-class science and technology researchers or developers who have demonstrated ingenious and innovative thinking in the creation of unique ideas, concepts, perspectives and processes in their field." Dr. Bryson was recognized for her "outstanding contribution to autism research and her efforts to help the autism community."
The award for Emerging Professional of Distinction went to Marie-Claude Gregoire, assistant professor of pediatrics at AV整氈窒. The award goes to grad students, post-docs or practicing professionals who are 35 years of age or under.
AV整氈窒 professor emeritus Brian Hall was inducted to the Discovery Centre's Hall of Fame, recognizing Nova Scotians who have made an outstanding lifetime contribution to society through scientific and technological discovery and invention. The evolutionary developmental biologist's research focuses on the neural crest cells, a group of embryonic cells that form in the developing nervous system, then migrate to form bones, cartilage and teeth in the head. His research "has been crucial to evolutionary science and to the understanidng of developmental conditions such as cleft palate."
