A number of system upgrades will require brief periods without the normal power supply to a few buildings located on the Studley campus.
First up is the replacement of the main transformers serving the Life Sciences Centre (LSC). In an effort to minimize disruption to the buildings occupants, the LSC will be switched over to a temporary power supply for approximately a week while the work is done to replace this equipment. In order to switch to temporary power, it is necessary to schedule an outage for Sunday, December 12 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. During this period of six hours, all of the LSC and the Chase Building will be without non-emergency power.
Emergency power back-up
We will have our generator in use, so all emergency power will remain functioning, says Philip Li, Project Leader (Mechanical).
It is estimated that the temporary power will be running for one week, at which time another shutdown will be required to transfer back to the buildings regular power.
This is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 18 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please note that during this time all of the LSC and Chase Building will be without non-emergency power. Since a generator will be running, all emergency power will be functioning.
Anyone working in the buildings who would like more detail, or to share information, can get in touch with me by calling 494-3322, says Mr. Li.
Elsewhere, planned upgrades for the electrical vault in the Sir James Dunn Building will have a ripple effect on the Henry Hicks Academic Administration Building, Shirreff Hall and the University Club.
Apologies for inconvenience
Power outages are planned for the early morning of Tuesday, Dec. 21 from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and again during the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The buildings will experience a complete power outage at the very beginning of each of these periods. For the remainder of the time a generator, located in the parking lot, will supply the Dunn Building.
Temporary power will only be available in the Dunn building; Henry Hicks, Sherriff Hall and a portion of the University Club will be without power on Tuesday, Dec. 21 from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and on Wednesday, Dec. 22 from 6 p.m to 8 .pm.
We apologize for any inconvenience this necessary work may cause and for the unforeseen circumstances that mean the additional buildings will be impacted, says Julio Ortiz, Project Leader (Electrical).
If you have any questions or concerns, Mr. Ortiz can be reached at 494-1976.
