Varsity athletes traded their sweats and jerseys for evening dresses and suits last night for the 57th Annual Black and Gold Athletic Awards Banquet on Thursday night.
Graduating students Jeanette Huck and Simon Farine capped off their years by being presented with the trophies for female and male athletes of the year.
Ms. Huck is a fifth year commerce student and a three-time women’s soccer most valuable player. A two-way player who works hard on the attack and on defense, Huck led her team in goals this season with six. For her exceptional effort on the field, she was named an AUS first team all-star for the third time in her career and, at the national level, was recognized as a CIS first team all-Canadian. The Halifax native works equally as hard off the field and in the classroom—she is a three-time Dean’s List student and three-time CIS Academic All-Canadian.
Mr. Farine is a fourth-year basketball player and a three-time team MVP. This season he collected 501 points, 124 assists and 58 steals and is now ranked second in career scoring in AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ history with 1,452 regular season points. The Torontonian had an outstanding four-year career as a Tiger, leading his team to two AUS championships, one in the 2008-09 season and one this season. For his performance this year, he was honoured as an AUS first team all-star and at the AUS championship was named the AUS tournament MVP. He also received honours as a CIS second team all-Canadian and at the CIS championship tournament received the CIS R.W. Pugh Fair Play Award for sportsmanship.
