What do the bike centre at AV整氈窒, environmental justice and the Alberta oil sands have in common? Green Week!
Its that time of year again from September 23 - 27 the AV整氈窒 Student Union is hosting its annual , with this years theme being environmental justice.
My goal is to make it more interactive, with things like critical discussions, explains Alia Karim, executive director the DSU Sustainability Office.
Green Week at AV整氈窒 is meant to share awareness about environmental justice with students on campus through activities and workshops. Activities include presentations and talks, bike tune-up work shops, farmers markets in the SUB, art displays and more!.
Green, sustainable, eco-friendly these words are used in our everyday speech, says Karim. Yet, they fail to addressthe fair and ethicaldevelopment of environmental regulations, law, ideology, and processes. [They] also do not ensure themeaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, sex, national origin or income.
As part of Green Week, students from the AV整氈窒 Agricultural Campus in Truro will be coming to Halfiax as well to attend some of the talks, network with other students and chat with some keynote speakers. The week's most significant keynote speaker is Av Signh, one of Canada's leading experts on organic agriculture, who will present in Ondaatje Hall in the McCain Building Thursday night as part of the Environment, Sustianability and Society lecture series.
