Tigers Weekend Recap

Two Tigers made their way onto the podium at the 2014 CIS Track and Field Championships in Edmonton, AB, while the women’s basketball team earned a berth in the 2014 AUS semifinals before running into one of the nation’s top teams.

Women’s Basketball

The fifth-seeded Tigers defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks in the quarter-final of the 2014 Subway AUS Championship this Friday in Charlottetown, PE. Down by four points going into the fourth quarter, the Tigers outscored the Sea-Hawks 18-8 to go on to win 70-64. Courtney Thompson had 22 points, five rebounds and five assists to pace the Tigers, while Robbi Daley chipped in 17 points of her own on 8-13 shooting from the field. This was sweet revenge for the Tigers, who were ousted by the Sea-Hawks in the quarter-finals last season.

On Saturday, the Tigers faced the powerhouse Saint Mary’s Huskies, who went 20-0 in the regular season.Ìý Although the Tigers only trailed by four points after the first quarter, the Tigers just couldn’t keep up with Justine Colley and the rest of the Huskies, and fell 73-53 as the Tigers season came to an end. Thompson had another huge game for the Tigers with 21 points and 14 rebounds, while Daley and Ainsley MacIntyre each added eight points of their own.

The Tigers were well represented at the awards banquet with Tessa Stammberger being named an AUS first team all-star, while Courtney Thompson was named to the second team. Shayln Field was named to the all-rookie team, while Robbi Daley was selected as the Community Service Award winner.

Track & Field
