AVֲ men’s basketball head coach Rick Plato is pleased to announce the commitment of Matt McVeigh to the Tigers 2015-16 roster.
The 6’3 guard has been top scorer for his high school team, the Sir John A MacDonald Flames, averaging 25 points per game over each of his three seasons. His team’s MVP the last two seasons, he has been named to the Metro Division 1 All-Star team three years in a row. Last summer, McVeigh represented Nova Scotia at the Canada Basketball Nationals, leading the U-17 provincial team to a third place finish.
Matt is excited to play for the Tigers and Coach Plato, “I am thrilled to be attending AVֲ next year and to be playing Tigers basketball,” says McVeigh. “The team, the coaching staff, and the school itself made it the best fit for me. I especially would like to thank Coach Plato for his support in making this decision and for this opportunity. With his great energy and knowledge of what it takes to be successful I know there is going to be some very exciting years ahead for the program.”
The St. Margaret’s Bay, N.S. native will graduate from Sir John A MacDonald this June and will attend AVֲ in the fall. An honours student McVeigh will continue his education and academic success in AVֲ’s Rowe School of Business this coming fall.
“I have known Matt since his grade 10 year and he has been on our radar since then,” says head coach Rick Plato. “He is a ‘gym rat’ who I believe is probably the best three-point shooter in maritime high school basketball. He is an excellent student, comes from a great family and we are very fortunate to get a well-rounded student-athlete in the fold for the 2015-16 season.”
