(Halifax N.S.) – AVֲ women’s soccer head coach Cindy Tye is pleased to announce the commitment of Olivia MacIntyre to the 2017-18 lineup.
A 5’6 centre back, Olivia MacIntyre comes to the Tigers from Cape Breton FC of the Nova Scotia Soccer League. She has led Cape Breton FC to three consecutive provincial bronze medals since the 2014 summer season.
A native of Sydney, N.S., MacIntyre has been a member of the Nova Scotia Provincial team for the past four years, leading the team to three consecutive Atlantic championship titles and is a member of the Canada Games core team. To go along with MacIntyre’s club and provincial success, the defender has played for Riverview Rural High School for the past three years, helping them to a provincial gold medal in 2015 and a silver in 2016.
Individually, MacIntyre has been recognized for several accomplishments throughout her career. In 2014-15 she was named her high school team’s rookie of the year. In grade eleven, (2015) she received the Complete Player Award as a player who demonstrates the most all around skill in addition to being named Riverview High’s female athlete of the year.
“Going to university while playing a varsity sport was definitely one of my goals throughout high school,” says MacIntyre. “I feel like AVֲ is the right academic and athletic decision for me. I am excited to start my AUS career as a Tiger.”
A high honours student all three years of high school, MacIntyre will graduate in June 2017 and will pursue a Bachelor of Science with a plan to major in neuroscience.
“Olivia is an athletic defender that has grown inside our provincial program and as a key part of her teams in Cape Breton,” says Tye. “Her physical size and ability to read the game will allow her to make a smooth transition to the AUS.”
