Three alumnae celebrated as Women of Excellence

On November 16, three alumnae were honoured as 2017 Progress Women of Excellence by the Canadian Progress Club – Halifax Cornwallis.

Christine Bonnell-Eisnor (BEng’99) was recognized with an award in the Management and Professions category. Bonnell-Eisnor is the director of regulatory affairs and finance, secretary of the board and registrar at the Canada Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board.

This year’s recipient in the Entrepreneur/Innovator category was Stefanie MacDonald (BMgmt’11). MacDonald is a mentor, creator and entrepreneur who founded the greeting card company Halifax Paper Hearts. Read more about her in this .

Dr. Elizabeth Osgood (PhD’16) received the Education and Research award. “Dr. Elizabeth Osgood annually inspires thousands of students and members of the public by sharing her experiences launching satellites with NASA and work in Kenya…Elizabeth has taken a 2-year leave of absence from her job as an Assistant Professor at the University of Prince Edward Island to begin training to be a religious sister for the Congregation of Notre-Dame at the Novitiate in New York,” says Catherine Walker of the Congregation of Notre-Dame. Dr. Osgood received her PhD in Mechanical Engineering at AVľăŔÖ˛ż.

Fellow alumna Karen Furneaux (BScK’00, MSc’06) was the keynote speaker at the event. Furneaux is a three-time Olympian and two-time world champion in sprint kayaking as well as four-time Nova Scotia Female Athlete of the Year. In 2010, she founded the health and wellness company, I Promise Performance, Inc.
