GRANT-PAID JOB OPPORTUNITY

STUDY TITLE: Cancer's Margins and the Choreography of Knowledge: Towards a聽 Queer Biopolitics and the Mobilization of Public Health Knowledge

POSTING DATE: August 15, 2012

POSITION TERM: September 1, 2012 to April 30, 2013

Job Title: Research Assistant (part time)
Hours: 5-10hrs/week (flexibility required)
Rate of pay: $15-25 per hours (rate based on experience and qualifications)

Project Background: This study aims to: (a) document what knowledge actually informs cancer health and treatment decision-making by sexual and/or gender minority breast or gynecologic cancer patients and care network members in diverse locations, (b) expose and analyze complex intersectional relationships between gender and sexuality and cancer health and care experiences generally, and knowledge access, sharing and mobilization practices specifically, and (c) understand how and where cancer knowledge travels in terms of access to, and negotiation of, differences in knowledge related to cancer health and treatment decision- making.

Semi-structured interviews will be carried out, with a purposively diverse sample of queer, lesbian and bisexual women and transgendered people diagnosed and treated for breast or gynecologic cancers. Interviews will also be carried out with care network members.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position will have a completed graduate degree, or be in the process of completing a graduate degree in health promotion or related health science degree. Undergraduate students may be considered depending on experience.

Duties: Conducting literature reviews, recruiting study participants, conducting interviews, data analysis, and assisting with the writing of report and articles for publication. Applicants must have the ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for this position.
