From the November 5 Chronicle Herald:
All conversations pass through translator Katia Antispenka, a skilled linguist who at age 22 is on call 24-7 to help with Russian communication issues during the 2013 World Junior A Challenge underway this week in Yarmouth. The team won its first game Monday night 6-2 over Team Canada East.
Antispenka, originally from Belarus, has made Yarmouth her home. She first set eyes on the town at age seven when she and other children were spirited away from Belarus in the summer to escape the effects of radioactive fallout from the Chornobyl disaster in neighbouring Ukraine.
...
Antispenka wants to work in Yarmouth, a community that gave her so much.
Im not going anywhere. This is where I want to stay, said the Pubnico resident, who is in her third year at AV整氈窒s nursing campus in Yarmouth.
But this week shes on a much different schedule.
I try to be here as much as I can, she said as intense Russians skated drills and coaches shouted commands.
