PART-TIME ACADEMIC POSTING

POSITION: Part-Time Academic for ERTH 1060.03 – Natural Disasters for the 2017/2018 winter term. The course runs from January 9th to April 10th, 2018 with the exam period continuing until April 26th, 2018. Class enrolment varies between 220 and 450 students.
DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Department of Earth Sciences, Halifax Campus
PAY RATE: In accordance with CUPE Agreement Local 3912
WORK ASSIGNMENT: We seek a geoscientist who will (i) introduce the assignments to the class and assist undergraduates in their completion of the assignments during the winter semester; (ii) post all grades for the course (quizzes, exercises, exams) using Brightspace; (iii) assist in lectures; (iv) proof-read and proctor two mid-term tests and one final exam; and (v) efficiently respond by email or in person to assist students with questions regarding the course.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Minimum of B.Sc. in Geology or Earth Sciences with relevant expertise and teaching experience.

POSITION: Part-Time Academic for ERTH 1060.03 – Natural Disasters for the 2017/2018 fall term. The course runs from January 9th to April 10th, 2018, however, this PTA position is to oversee the restructuring of the homework exercises for the course during the Fall 2017 semester. Ideally, this individual would also continue in the Winter term to assist in the delivery and evaluation of this material, as well as in other roles. Class enrolment varies between 220 and 450 students.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: We seek a geoscientist who will (i) with the course instructor, develop ten homework exercises, most which will use GoogleEarth® to measure or interpret landscape elements to demonstrate important concepts in natural hazards; those exercises will be hosted and graded by an online learning management system such as Brightspace; (ii) test run and finalize those exercises and their instructions and support materials by December 1 2017.
