WORK ASSIGNMENT:Ìý The part-time academic instructor will be responsible for teaching NURS5899.03 – Sexual Health & Counseling in Cancer during the Summer term of the academic year 2018-2019.

Cancer causes wide-ranging impacts on sexual health, but many health care professionals do not feel confident about addressing sexual health needs. This course is designed to provide graduate students in the health professions with the knowledge and skills to intervene with sexual health problems that arise in cancer.

FORMAT:

  • Seminar
  • Online Delivery

This is a 3 credit hour course with 120 minute weekly online seminars.

This contract runs from May 1, 2019 until July 31, 2019. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development of teaching and learning activities related to the course
  • Delivery and co-ordination of the course
  • Assessment and evaluation of student learning
  • Use of Brightspace for course delivery
  • Responding to student queries about coursework
  • Attending initial instruction with Instructional Learning Online services
  • Participation in course discussions within the program
  • Develop and administer examinations
  • Submission of grades
  • Follow up with students as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Candidates must hold a graduate degree in Nursing, or related field, with relevant expertise and teaching experience. PhD preferred.

Co-Lecturer for NURS2720.03 – Health & Healing I: Pathophysiology and Therapeutics (Summer term of the academic year 2018-2019)

Students are introduced to and explore the fundamentals of health and disease patterns, the role of genetics, developmental biology and environment. Cellular mechanisms, inflammatory and infectious responses and cellular biology of cancer are investigated. Diagnosis and therapeutic concepts including preventive therapies and pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions with consideration of age and cultural variations are introduced.

This is a 3-credit hour course taught by two co-lecturers. Lectures are held twice-weekly on Thursdays from 13:35 – 15:25 and on Fridays from 08:35 – 09:25 followed by tutorials from 09:35 – 10:25. The final exam will be held during the week of July 22, 2019.

This co-lecturer appointment runs from May 1, 2018 through July 31, 2019. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development of teaching and learning activities related to course-specific topics (e.g., pharmacology, pathophysiology)
  • Co-teach course content
  • Assessment and evaluation of student learning
  • Use of Brightspace for course delivery
  • Responding to student queries about coursework in collaboration with the other Co-Course Professor
  • Attending initial instruction with Instructional Learning Online services re: Brightspace
  • Participation in course discussions within the program
  • Develop and administer examinations
  • Submission of grades
  • Follow up with students as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Candidates must hold a graduate degree in Nursing, or related field, with a strong background in pharmacology including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and pathophysiology. Prior teaching experience an asset.Ìý PhD preferred.

Lecturer for NURS3720.03 – Professional Formation of Nursing Practice: Leadership Perspectives (Summer term of the academic year 2018-2019)

Leadership is integral to the practice of every nurse. Examining and applying leadership theories and behaviours enable effective practices to be evaluated. The nursing role in conflict resolution, crisis intervention and therapeutic communication to manage complex situations using multiple perspectives is examined.

This is a 3-credit hour course taught online.

This appointment runs from May 1, 2018 through July 31, 2019. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.

Lecturer for NURS4380.03 – Introduction to Epidemiology Methods in Nursing Practice (Summer term of the academic year 2018-2019)

This introductory course is intended to provide students at both the undergraduate and graduate level with a working knowledge and understanding of the basic concepts and methods of epidemiology. The main focus of this course will be to learn to analyse and interpret information about disease (i.e. both acute and chronic) and other health related occurrences at a population level (e.g. risk factors, diversity, determinants of health) within a Public and Community Health Nursing context. This course will also provide an introduction to the concepts for developing, implementing and evaluating public health programs and, for independent inquiry and decision making around public health policy. There are no prerequisites for this course though students are required to have completed their second year of their undergraduate program or have permission from the course instructor. A clinical background and a basic understanding of statistics for the Graduate students are essential but not necessary for Undergraduate students. This is a 3-credit hour course taught online and equivalent to 3hours/week.
