Marking Assistant Position - Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences

POSITION: Marker - ENVS 3501 (approx. 60 hours) ­ Fall 2021

APPLICATION DEADLINE: June 1, 2021 or until position filled.

RATE OF PAY: According to the CUPE Agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The Marking Assistant will be responsible for assisting the primary instructor teaching ENVS 3501.03 "Environmental Problem Solving I" with marking quizzes, assignments and updating and maintaining the class grade database.  The Marking Assistant reports directly to the instructor of ENVS 3501.03.

REQUIREMENTS: The Marking Assistant must be a senior undergraduate or graduate student at AV¾ãÀÖ²¿. Preference will be given to candidates with a broad environmental focus in their studies (having experience in both science and social science is an asset) and who has experience with Brightspace. The Marking Assistant must be reliable, energetic, and enthusiastic about the position.  The Marking Assistant will be required to work online and in consultation with the instructor of the course.

Environmental Science teaching assistants - Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences

POSTING DATE: May 4, 2021

CLOSING DATE: May 14, 2021 or until positions are filled

POSITION: Teaching Assistants for ENVS 1100.03, Foundations of Environmental Science: ecosphere, resources & sustainability.

SALARY:

2 TAs at 65 hours as per CUPE Collective Agreement.

1 TA at 90 hours as per CUPE Collective Agreement.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Teaching assistants will lead undergraduate students in tutorial sessions covering a variety of topics in introductory-level environmental science and environmental studies. TAs will grade tutorial assignments and student participation. The tutorials are designed to be hands-on to provide opportunities for small group discussions. Each TA will lead two 1.5-hour tutorials per week for 10 weeks per term and spend time preparing for and grading tutorials and lab reports. One TA will be hired as the lead contact person for students and, in addition to the responsibilities listed above, will assist with grading lecture quizzes, in-class assignments, and help grade mid-term and final exams.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Successful applicants must be senior undergraduate, graduate or professional student at AV¾ãÀÖ²¿, in a field related to environmental science/studies or with undergraduate education in a field related to environmental science. TAs must be reliable, energetic, and enthusiastic about the tutorial topics, and comfortable in facilitating the learning of undergraduate students in the tutorials.
