One‑Minute Meeting with Dawn Morrison

Posted by Communications, Marketing and Creative Services on March 8, 2022 in Community Highlights

Three questions, each answered in 150 words or less. One-Minute Meeting is a quick and easy way to get to know more about your colleagues, new and old. Learn how you can nominate someone at the bottom of this post.

Today's meeting is with Dawn Morrison, Director, Communications and External Relations for the Faculty of Health.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Dal?

The people. I work with the best colleagues in the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Health and am good friends with many co-workers from my days at Communications, Marketing and Creative Services (then called Communications and Marketing). I’ve worked at Dal in various roles since 2004, so I’ve gotten to know a lot of people over the years. It’s always fun to ‘meet’ someone and realize I wrote a story about them years ago!

Also, I love those unique Dal experiences that make working here so special. Things like the Carol Sing event that happens during the holiday season, walking across campus on a leafy, fall afternoon, the way Dal comes alive when the students return after summer break, or watching joyful grads and their families take photos in front of the Dal sign during Convocation. I’m looking forward to post-pandemic life when we all can enjoy these things again, and more.

What’s the most surprising thing we might see on your resume/cv?
Ìý
Probably that I write novels for the Wattpad online platform. I’ve written five books so far and am working on a sixth. It’s always been a dream of mine to write a book, so becoming an author and having readers from around the world has been quite thrilling!

When you're feeling tired out, what is your go-to strategy for regaining balance?
Ìý
I am a big believer in self-care, and that can mean different things to me depending on the situation. Some days, that might mean getting up at 5 a.m., doing some meditation and going to the gym. Other days, it might be spending an evening under a blanket binge-watching Netflix or watching TikTok videos. Especially now, I think we should be gentle with ourselves and do whatever makes us feel comfortable and replenished in our down time, whether it’s taking a walk in the forest or lazing around eating ice cream and watching bad rom-coms.
