The School of Health and Human Performance in AV整氈窒's Faculty of Health invites applications from qualified candidates for a 0.75 one-year faculty position at the Instructor rank commencing April 1, 2022.

AV整氈窒 is comprised of 6,000 faculty and staff amongst its 13 Faculties. Current enrollment is 18, 500 graduate and undergraduate students. As part of Canada's U15 research簫 intensive group, AV整氈窒 is an influential driver of the region's intellectual, social and economic development. It is the largest university in Atlantic Canada and is located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq in the heart of Halifax (Kjipuktuk), a scenic coastal city and capital of Nova Scotia which is home to 13 Mi'kmaq First Nations, a deeply rooted African Nova Scotia community, an increasingly diverse population which also includes a vibrant workforce of people living with disabilities.

The Faculty of Health's faculty, staff and students are committed to improving the well-being of individuals, families, communities and populations through diverse health programming, collaborative research and strong community partnerships. The Faculty of Health is one of the largest Faculties at AV整氈窒, comprised of eight schools, one college and one program, more than 200 faculty members, 80 staff members, and approximately 3,000 students. With the most programmatically diverse health Faculty in Canada, our students are exposed to a broad range of health topics and learning experiences.

The School of Health and Human Performance's vision is 'physical and mental wellness for all'. The School offers programs leading to Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Kinesiology, Health Promotion, Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, and Recreation Management.

The primary duties of this position include the preparation and delivery of undergraduate and graduate teaching in health promotion. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a total of four courses corresponding with a demonstrated area of expertise and the teaching needs of the Health Promotion BSc and MA programs (e.g., health promotion policy, health promotion strategies, comprehensive school health, and applied research). The successful candidate will also be expected to support curricula development and revisions occurring within the Health Promotion BSc and MA programs as the faculty work to implement a revised program.

The successful candidate will preferably hold a PhD in Health Promotion or a health-related discipline such as Sociology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Education, or Psychology. Expertise in the socio-cultural and structural determinants of health, experience in curriculum design and development that is informed by culturally diverse pedagogies (e.g., Mi'kmaq, African Nova Scotian, etc.), and experience using teaching methodologies grounded in diverse cultural perspectives would be assets. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of strong teaching, organizational, and effective interpersonal and communication skills. The successful candidate must be prepared to work individually, with faculty, staff, and teaching assistants and students to grow and improve the delivery of the Health Promotion undergraduate and graduate programs. It is expected that the successful candidate will serve on the Health Promotion Division and School and Faculty-level committees.
