Campus Biodiversity Week

The AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ Office of Sustainability is inviting the AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ campus and community to celebrate Campus Biodiversity Week by joining our tours and workshops to learn more about the importance of biodiversity and the work being done on campus. Indigenous Plant Medicine Walk +Talk, hosted by Michele Graveline

Wednesday, June 21st from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

Location: Indigenous Student Centre - 1321 Edward Street

¸é±ð²µ¾±²õ³Ù°ù²¹³Ù¾±´Ç²Ô: 

Come celebrate Summer by joining Herbalist Michele Graveline for a walk on Studley Campus, where we will be exploring some of the medicinal plants on campus. After a short walk, we will gather at the Indigenous Student Centre (ISC) for some herbal tea and more conversation about some of the local plants you can expect to find over the season.

AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ Art Gallery’s Indigenous Pollinator Garden 

Sunday, June 25th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Location: Indigenous Pollinator Garden (in between Henry Hicks and MacDonald Building)

¸é±ð²µ¾±²õ³Ù°ù²¹³Ù¾±´Ç²Ô: 

Come explore the AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ Art Gallery’s Indigenous Pollinator Garden and learn about the storytelling power of person-plant relationships. We will engage in an exercise to connect the natural environment with social issues and learn about steps we can only take with a holistic worldview.

Pollinator Wall Planting

Monday, June 26th from 11:00 am – 1:30 pm

Location: the forest behind Sherriff Hall

Join us on Monday, June 26th at 11:00 am for our Pollinator Wall Planting Event! We will be transplanting a variety of beautiful native perennials that were selected to promote the presence of pollinators. Stop by to learn more about this project, participate in planting, and/or stay for an afternoon of pollinator fun! 

This project is funded by the World Wildlife Fund, and we gratefully acknowledge the support of WWF-Canada.

We are looking for volunteers to help in the construction of the Pollinator Wall on the following days: Tuesday, June 20, Friday, June 23 and Sunday, June 25 from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm.

iNaturalist Workshop 

Tuesday, June 27th from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Location: South Entrance of the Steele Ocean Science Building

¸é±ð²µ¾±²õ³Ù°ù²¹³Ù¾±´Ç²Ô:  

Come explore the natural side of our Studley campus and learn how to use iNaturalist. iNaturalist is the largest community science platform in the world. We will explore ways you can use the platform to learn about biodiversity, and you can help us document the diversity of life in Dal’s outdoor spaces.

Solar Butterfly Exhibit 

Thursday, June 29th from 2:00 – 10:00 pm

Location: Killam Loop (6225 University Ave)

The Solar Butterfly is a global exhibit to inspire people worldwide with solutions to address Global Warming. This June, the Solar Butterfly team will come to campus with its travelling exhibit as its first stop in a North American tour.Ìý
