Biography:
After my Bachelor of Civil Law, I received an M.A. in Applied Linguistics in the TeachingÌýof Spanish as a Foreign Language from Antonio de Nebrija University. In 2018, I completed my Ph.D. inÌýRomance Languages, Linguistics, and Media Studies at the University of Mannheim. My teaching and research focus onÌýSociopragmatics, Discourse Analysis, Sociolinguistics, and Speech Acts.
My book Estudio de la cortesÃa verbal en las peticiones del español limeño y cusqueño, New York/Frankfurt: Peter Lang, 2018Ìýpresents and examines norms and strategies present in the speech act of requests in Spanish, both in Lima and Cusco. The theoretical framework develops key concepts from Pragmatics, speech acts, and verbal politeness. The methodological procedure involved 100 participants from Cusco and Lima, using three data collection instruments: discourse completion questionnaires, role-play scenarios, and verbal reports. The final results indicate that different strategies are employed to address uncertainty when requesting. IÌýexplain why these strategies are part of a "politeness of doubt," characteristic of Peruvian society. Possible interpretations include the presence of an informal and distrustful atmosphere already perceived in the interlocutor, making it necessary to convince the listener that what is being said is true. Another possible interpretation is the social insecurity and uncertainty caused by the cultural conflict between Creoles and Indigenous peoples, which intensified with internal migration and terrorism.
