Suzanne Budge
I love the work we do with CIFT because it's all about problem-solving and finding answers to interesting questions. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a scientist and this was exactly what I imagined myself doing. What could be better than that?"
Dr. Suzanne Budge is the head of the Marine Oils Labs in CIFT. She consults extensively with local industry. Her research encompasses a variety of topics within the broad field of marine lipids, including: the production and transfer of lipids through food webs, the use of stable carbon isotopic signatures of essential fatty acids as biomarkers, and the reaction kinetics of lipid oxidation in fish oils.
Dr. Budge received her B.Sc. in Chemistry from Acadia University, Nova Scotia, in 1993 and her Ph.D. in Marine Chemistry from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Newfoundland in 1999. She spent several years as a research associate in the Biology Department at AV整氈窒, and she is an associate professor and undergraduate coordinator in the Food Science Program at AV整氈窒.
Her research is concentrated on the analysis of marine lipids, specifically their trophic cycling and subsequent oxidation.
