Elective Courses

Students have the opportunity to select their 3 electives from a list provided by the Faculties of Agriculture, Arts and Social Sciences, Computer Science, Management, and Science.

The list of electives is divided into three clusters: Leadership, In Context, and Experiential.

Students must select one elective from each cluster.

Leadership

Courses in this category contribute to the development of effective leadership capabilities. This could include the ability to:

  • form and lead teams to move ideas forward
  • understand how to balance multiple perspectives
  • seek out the expertise of others

In Context

Courses in this category contribute to a student’s understanding of the role of innovation in various contexts and disciplines, including impacts on society, industry and organizations. This includes innovation in the following contexts:

  • policy development
  • the economy
  • technological change
  • social change
  • the environment

Experiential

The experiential learning category of electives and the experiential capstone class ensure that every student who completes the minor will have two experiential learning courses from which they can pursue the valuable outcomes.

A student can also work with the Coordinator of the Minor program to have a new elective course approved on a one-time basis. This approval process requires the student to make a case for why the elective could be considered a suitable alternative. Please reach out to eiminor@dal.ca for more information.
