The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology has a strong research focus. A vital component of our research activity is our commitment to training students for successful careers in academic, medical and industrial settings.

This training includes not only laboratory work, but also guided seminar presentations and discussion groups to develop the well-rounded researcher. Our students' successes have established a reputation of excellence for our training program.

Teaching assistantships

As a graduate student, you will normally hold a teaching assistantship at some point during your program, pending availability. Teaching experience can include lab demos in second and third year undergraduate labs, as well as marking reports and assignments. 

Departmental seminars

Departmental seminars encourage student interactions and active participation in the exchange of ideas with researchers and educators from around the world. .

Graduate student seminars

Graduate student seminars provide students with experience in the written and oral presentation of scientific data. Students are also expected to actively critique each other's research-based scientific seminars.

Integrated Health Research Training Program

This program provides practical research training opportunities to graduate students, residents, postdoctoral fellows, faculty members and health professionals in the Maritimes. Participants learn essential skills in such key areas as study design, grant writing, project management and ethics. .
